Wow! Seven Spirit Bay on the Cobourg Peninsula in West Arnhem Land is a triumph of vision and ingenuity. How on earth did they manage to transport the materials to one of the most remote spots on the globe to build a six-star luxury resort, with beautiful villas on the waterfront, hundreds of kilometres from anywhere? But I’m so glad they did.
After days of dusty driving on unmade red dirt roads, it’s a fabulous sanctuary. It was our last stop on a 13-day Outback Spirit trip through the middle of Arnhem Land and an absolute haven of beautiful beaches (albeit the nearest with a 3.5metre crocodile basking there), water so clear you can see the sharks circling just off the jetty, creeks teeming with fish (although I caught nothing), fabulous food (sometimes the fish that other people caught), amazing sunsets and one of the cutest ‘international’ airports in the world for the final flight out of Arnhem Land to Darwin.
