Murder mystery haunts

By 4 October 2024No Comments
It’s been 23 years since British backpackers Peter Falconio and Joanne Lees were hunted down in the Australian Outback and Peter was shot, never to be seen again, and his girlfriend managed to escape their drug-crazed attacker Bradley Murdoch.
Yet still the fascination with the case endures.
As the author of the internationally award-winning book And Then The Darkness about the horror that occurred in the Top End that night, I’ve spent the day being interviewed by a new British-Canadian documentary about the murder and its terrible aftermath. It was extraordinary — the vilification of Joanne for not behaving in the way everyone expected, and the conspiracy theories swirling that Peter had possibly faked his own death. And that was even before social media!
The documentary looks like being a belter … and will doubtless air on Australian TV next year too.
