Ducked into Abbey’s Bookshop in the Sydney CBD for a chat and discovered that my new book has featured in their Top Ten. Yee ha! That’s a real pat on the back, since they have a bunch of such dedicated — and could we say, discriminating? — readers. They even made a little film of me talking about the book. So generous of them! We’re so lucky that we still have such great bookshops in the centre of Sydney. What is it the author Jen Campbell said of bookshops? “Bookshops are dreams built of wood and paper. They are time travel and escape and knowledge and power. They are, simply put, the best of places.”
