Loved attending the Film Critics Circle of Australia’s awards night this week – our version of Hollywood’s Golden Globes, albeit with a little less glamour! Congratulations to the winners in all the categories. I handed out the award for Best Screenplay to Adam Elliot for his Oscar-nominated Memoir of a Snail (and who also won Best Director and Best Film) and was dazzled by all the talent in attendance (and dialling in from elsewhere). And, as well as being a critic, I felt a special part of it as Allen & Unwin generously donated copies of my latest book, The Governor, His Wife and His Mistress, to each of the winners, and put a page in the program about my historical fiction. A movie about early colonial Oz, anyone??
