Talented SMH photographer Dion Georgopoulos took a pic to accompany a piece in a series I wrote about the Selwyn Street boarding houses that were to be pulled down to make way for luxury housing. His image of John Patmore, one of the men set to be evicted, was absolutely heartbreaking in its poignancy.
Now it’s been shortlisted for the National Photographic Portrait Prize (Australia’s most prestigious photographic award), and is on display at the National Portrait Gallery in Canberra. And, in a lovely gesture, John was taken up to see it at the weekend. Bravo Dion, and good on you, John!
