Once a year, one of Australia’s best known families, the Macarthurs, opens the gates to their grand mansion and gardens in the south west of Sydney to the public. The house was built by wool barons John and Elizabeth Macarthur, and was one of the finest homes in all the land, while the gardens were landscaped by one of their sons, a keen botanist like his mother, who travelled around the world, bringing back specimens of trees and plants to stock the landscape. I couldn’t resist visiting, and both the house and gardens are a stunning sight. It provided huge inspiration for what is shaping up to be my next-but-one-novel, about a fascinating aspect of the family’s life …#elizabethandelizabeth #camdenparkhouse #johnandelizabethmacarthur
