In the Moroccan capital Rabat, this was intended to become the world’ largest mosque when it was built towards the end of the 12th Century. But why was it never completed? The patron of Hassan Tower died in 1199 … and all the work finished. Tragic, as it’s an amazing building — or would have been. Next door is the Mausoleum of Mohammed V which contains the tombs of him and his two sons, guarded by some of the tallest men I’ve ever seen.
