What better thing is there to do on a Norwegian fjord but to get up close and personal? I joined a kayaking trip at Skjolden, the tiny village inland, and despite nearly falling in when a speedboat went past and caused some serious waves, I just about kept my balance, if not my dignity. But it was generally so spectacularly serene, drifting around (sometimes, unfortunately, in circles), and looking up at the mountains, dipping fingers in the icy water and keeping an eye open for seals. And happily, when someone fell in finally, trying to get out of the boat on an angle, it wasn’t me. Hurrah! A big win! And thanks to kayak guides Martin and Jans Christian for helping make sure I kept dry …
