Visiting Poland, and our first stop is the capital Warsaw. A stunning city but with such a tragic history as the crossroads of both the east and west, and a territory constantly fought in, and over.
In World War II, it was a victim of expansionist Nazi Germany and the city was razed to the ground during the Warsaw Uprising against the brutal regime. Then the Soviets arrived — another terrible period — but one which saw many of the city’s beautiful historic buildings reconstructed according to the original plans. And today, how do you tell which are comparatively new, and which few remained? Bulletholes …
