Went to see the Olivier Award-winning comedy Pride & Prejudice (sort of) at the Opera House … and loved it. It’s a fabulously inventive retelling of the classic story, through the eyes of the servants, with pop music, karaoke, dance and absolute chaos. Enormous fun. It felt, for me, a great warm-up for my next novel, coming out in January, Macarthur’s Daughters, since Elizabeth and John’s three daughters were growing up in the same period as Jane Austen, and would have known her book (although not that it was written by a woman, of course, since it was published anonymously at first). But this latest theatre adapation – highly recommended!
