Visiting my old university pal Karen who has been living in France’s Limoges for the past 40-odd years, we went out for the day to gorgeous Vassivière Lake, about an hour away. A human-made lake covering a valley of over 10sqkm, it almost feels like you’re in Canada. Happily, we had a beautifully clear day for a good walk, a climb up a tower and, of course, a fabulous French lunch by the water.
